Review:  Digital Video Effects by CGM

Summary

The CGM DVE package is terrific.  It provides the FCP editor with  a not too overwhelming choice of 2D and 3D wipes and transitions, effects and image control filters.  In particular I really like the Morph and Wind Blur effects.  I find there to be ample controls for the user (the Pro Effect is even better.)  The integration into the FCP interface seems seamless and complete.

Review Points

Bezier Matte:  I had difficulty working with this.  Definitely needed in FCP but I was unable to grab the Bezier points and control as I am used to in other Apps (like Photoshop).  I couldn’t seem to figure out how to work this.

Silk:  I really like the subtle sexiness this filter lets you add to your video!  Simple and really HOT!

Area Blur:  Always good to have this, cause you never know when someone will run naked through your shot!

Film Pro:  Really well done film effects filter.  Excellent controls and excellent response in FCP.  Takes a little further understand of color use, but once you get it, you GET IT!.

In general, I really like the program and the seamless integration with FCP makes it a package that I will use many times over.  Instead of having to constantly go into a motion graphics applications, I can add effect directly into my comp.  That saves me time and frustration.
